At Nakoa Cairns, we breed a litter with the intent of improving upon the previous generation, and plan to keep a puppy. We are planning a breeding now and hope to have puppies late this year. Please contact us if you are interested in a cairn. The dam is Ch. Nakoa Hinahina's Molly Mack CD RA, and she is a very smart and trainable girl who is now working on agility.
Please contact us if you would like to learn more about living with a cairn. A cairn is a long lived dog and thus a big commitment, and the terrier personality is not for every owner. It is also important to consider carefully your living situation. Cairns can be wonderful apartment/condominium or city dogs. However, think carefully if you do not own your own home or condominium as finding pet-friendly rentals in Hawaii can be extremely difficult. This issue has left many dogs in Hawaii homeless. Cairns have a very strong prey drive and so need to be exercised on leash and thus an owner must be completely commited to on-leash exercise except in safe, secure fenced areas. Homes with fenced yards are preferred. The joy of a cairn is that they view every day as a reason to celebrate and are happy to join in any activities with you. They have a zest for living and yet, are trainable (for terriers). They have earned the title "the best little pal in the world". See our links page for more information about cairn terriers.
Occasionally, we become aware of cairns needing a home and have taken in cairns as rescue. Please let us know if you would like to be on a waiting list for a future litter and/or an older dog.
